Our Testimony of HOPE

The news that you need help creating a family is devastating.  My husband and I have been in love for 17 years, married for 12, and trying to conceive for four.  When we learned that donor eggs were our best option for creating our family, we were shocked and heartbroken.

From the very beginning, the director and staff at Giving Hope made me feel loved, cared for, and special.  The day I sent an inquiry, I received access to the donor database.  I was so impressed with the donors.  Each donor expressed genuine compassion and a desire to help infertile couples like us.

When we chose our donor, we were emailed within hours letting us know that she was available.  We then scheduled a phone conference with Giving Hope. From the moment I had the telephone conference, I knew we made the right decision.  The director and each staff member we spoke with took the time to get to know me, and offered genuine comfort and HOPE.  We were given a case manager, and she was the most supportive and helpful woman.  If I met her today, I’d hug her.  Through the entire process she called, emailed, and texted to facilitate every aspect of this egg adoption, even sending messages to and from our donor.  That was the most special part of all, being able to send encouraging messages to our donor, and receiving them from her!

Giving Hope is the perfect name for this company.  These wonderful people genuinely care about you.  They support you through the dark times, lead and guide you through the process, then rejoice with you when miracles happen!

What could have been a truly daunting and emotional nightmare was a journey of HOPE.  My husband and I are now expecting our first child, and we’re so grateful God led us to Giving Hope!

Rollercoaster Ride for Intended Parents

Rollercoaster Ride for Intended Parents

Arriving at the decision to use donor eggs usually comes at the end of a long battle with infertility. Trying to get pregnant with your own eggs hasn’t worked for you, or the pregnancy results in miscarriage. You may be at this point because you can get pregnant and carry healthy children but your eggs may be defective.

The egg donation process can feel like an emotional roller coaster, but a roller coaster with a worthwhile ending. If you are facing this process, here are some emotions you can anticipate along this journey.

In the first half of the process, it is normal to be riddled with nerves and worry. Some questions intended parents face include the following:

  • Will we find the right donor?
  • Will the donor be available?
  • Will the egg donation process work out?
  • Will my body accept the pregnancy?

Parents will face a myriad of emotions after the embryos have been implanted. Waiting the ten days to find out if the pregnancy worked can be some of the most grueling times. If the pregnancy does not take, you may decide to try again with the unused eggs. You may decide to stop the process or wait. It’s important that you have the support you need with your doctor, the agency you have chosen, and even a counselor to help you process these emotions every step of the process.

If you do become pregnant, it is normal to have fears about bonding with the baby. It is also normal to have fears about the pregnancy. Being worried and nervous every step of the way is to be expected in the circumstances. We can assure that your worst fears about bonding with your child will be put to ease when you hold your child. Some parents even relate a stronger connection to their child because of the process they went through to get pregnant.

The Egg Donation Process

Our Egg Donation Process

Learning about egg donation takes some time. It is the process by which a woman (an egg donor) donates several of her unfertilized eggs (oocyt) to be utilized in the process of in vitro fertilization.

The eggs from the egg donor are donated to the recipient female, sometimes an individual but usually part of a couple referred to as Intended Parents for the purpose of helping to conceive a child in a situation where the prospective mother is unable to provide an egg capable of fertilization.

The first thing about egg donation is that is usually considered somewhat of a last resort for prospective parents. Typically, they have attempted a number of other strategies to become pregnant, but have been unsuccessful. Most do not learn about egg donation as a potential solution until they are informed by their doctor or perhaps they have discovered the process by researching on the internet.

Elements about egg donation to consider:
The first element to learn about egg donation is that selecting an ideal egg donor is the key to the success of the process. When searching for an egg donor the intended parents will usually want to find an egg donor who has similar characteristics similar to theirs, such as ethnicity, hair color, eye color, and body type.

The second element about egg donation is answering the question, “How do intended parents find the right egg donor?” Since there are literally thousands of females who are willing to be egg donors, before intended parents proceed very far into the process, it is highly advisable to find a large, diverse egg donor database from which they can choose a potential egg donor. The most practical approach to learning what you need to know about egg donation as a process is to find an experienced, reputable egg donation agency to assist the intended parents through sharing complete and objective information about egg donation. The right egg donation agency will have an egg donor data base where they have full demographic profiles, including health, history, education, interests, and photos, of hundreds of potential egg donors.

With a minimal amount of screening, the intended parents can learn enough about egg donation even more by gaining access to search and view the egg donation agency egg donor database. Some agencies charge large fees just to view their database where others are more workable up front. Ask a lot of question before you pay ANY fees.

The next element about egg donation is the need to understand that the egg donation process involves extensive medical and psychological evaluation to increase the success rate of the process. Once the intended parents have selected the right egg donor, then the egg donor will go through extensive medical screening and complete a psychological evaluation. The medical screening will test for all infectious diseases. The donor will also meet with the nurse who will explain in detail all about the egg donation process.

The fourth element about egg donation is that the use of legal contracts is highly advisable. Once the selected egg donor has completed her initial medical screening and psychological screening the prospective egg donor should enter into a legal contract with the intended parents. The contract ensures that there is informed consent to the donation and that donor fully understands the about the egg donation process, risks, and legal ramifications.

The fifth aspect about egg donation that cannot be taken lightly is the required use of proper medication. The egg donor will then take birth control pills which will suppress her menstrual cycle. Then, she will take injections of Lupron which is a hormone that will help increase her number of mature eggs. She will be monitored by the physician through a series of blood tests and ultrasound tests. As one can imagine, this is an involved process that takes some time.

The next aspect about egg donation is the execution of the retrieval process. Once the right quantity of eggs is fully mature then the procedure to retrieve the unfertilized eggs is performed in a doctor’s office under light anesthesia. The retrieval is accomplished through a simple, ultrasound guided outpatient procedure which only takes about a half hour. A needle is inserted into the egg donor’s ovary to gently withdraw the eggs. Then the eggs will be fertilized before being placed in into the recipient’s womb.

This is just a brief summary about egg donation. There is much more detail to learn about egg donation it is an important, complex process. The purpose of this article is to provide an overview of the process and help the reader begin to become more knowledgeable so they can make wise decisions.

5 Reasons You Should Use a Surrogacy Agency

Top reasons to use a surrogacy agency.

Deciding to participate in Surrogacy is a huge step whether you’re an Intended Parent (IP) or the Surrogate Mother, herself. It is a huge decision that probably came with months, if not years of weighing options and doing research. For some Intended Parents, finding a surrogate can land close to home when a family member or friend approaches to carry their child, but what about situations where you need to find someone to carry your child and you DON’T know them? For women who want to be surrogates, what if you don’t know someone who could use your help? You are both placed in this vast world of “now what?” Here are five reasons why choosing surrogacy agency is a route that will be less stressful, and a more enjoyable journey for all.

1: Surrogates and IP’s are pre-screened and MUST meet strict requirements.

  • Surrogacy comes with all different avenues of trust, trusting the IP’s that you have been matched with to be as involved as they said they would be and the IP’s trusting the Surrogate Mother to take good care of herself and your child she is carrying. It’s a scary arena to step into that puts both parties in a vulnerable state to one another. Shared Conception pre-screens all Surrogate Mothers and IP’s before moving into contracts, so each party can rest assured that the other will have passed a psychological evaluation, criminal background check, and any state mandated medical screenings. By doing this, we significantly reduce the risk of there ever being any unfortunate incidents, and help both parties to feel more comfortable in this process and focus on the joy of the journey instead of adding worry to the equation.

2: Assistance with legal contracts.

  • Most people do not have a law degree, and reading and going over a contract for a surrogacy arrangement by yourself can be extremely confusing. Some agencies will direct you to a trusted lawyer to assist you with your contracts.

3: Expert help with sensitive matters.

  • Surrogacy agencies are always here to handle delicate matters such as anything finance related. You can rely on us.

4: Matches based on mutual expectations.

  • As a part of the initial application process and profile creation for both the Surrogates and IP’s, a surrogacy agency ensures that your expectations in terms of communication, relationship, and delivery are reflected in writing. A qualified team will then take these expectations and the knowledge they have of both the IP’s and Surrogates, and match them based on their desires for a similar journey. When seeking a match outside of an agency, there is a risk that the surrogate and IP’s journey expectations may not match up, and that may not be discovered until further down the road when it may be too late to end the match.

5: Constant individual support for both IP’s and surrogates.

  • A Surrogacy agency is the most involved with IP’s in the beginning stages of the surrogacy journey, but are continually present for IP’s throughout the pregnancy and afterwards to offer support and answer questions as they arise. Participating in a surrogacy outside of an agency means that both the Surrogate and the IP’s miss out on this kind of support. It’s just not something found outside of an agency. Shared Conception is a stellar agency that stands out from the rest. Call us!
